How do you sell anything in life?

Thirty-two year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency Jack Devine has written a book called Good Hunting.

Here is an excerpt of an interview with Jack:

Your main job in the field was recruitment, which is a nice way of saying you got people to betray their countries for money. How do you do that?

How do you sell anything in life? You have to have a product, you have to develop a relationship, and in that relationship, you have to be able to identify people’s strengths and weaknesses. And then you have to be able to ask that tough question: Will you help me? There is a sense of timing in it. It is an art form.

Having someone betray his or her country must be considered the toughest sell in history. If this process worked for Jack Devine then it should work for you whatever you happen to be selling.
